What besides surgery can be done for bone spurs of the spine?

Answers:
Bone "spurs", are the RESULT of the way "fractures in the spinal vertebrae" HEAL THEMSELVES...

The "bone glue" that "leaks out"... helps to HEAL the fracture... but then... there's "extra" left over... that leaves a "rough" area... which, in xrays look like little "spines"...

They "cause pain"... when they rub against muscle tissue, tendons, and the skin covering the area...

So, the ONLY WAY to GET RID OF THEM... is to HAVE A SURGEON open up the area, and "sand them" down!

I've HAD MINE... for MORE than TWENTY YEARS... and JUST "DEAL WITH" the pain... when, there's a FLARE UP... the RESULT... of RE-FRACTURING the area of the AFFECTED VERTEBRAE!

Go to a chiropractor. They have medical training regarding the spine and can help! If you are in pain, I can almost guarantee that one would help tremendously! I work for one and am a patient and I will always be!
It may sound simplistic, but having bone spurs in the spine is kind of like having a pebble in your shoe - - the only thing that will make it go away completely is to take the shoe off and take the pebble out (or consider surgery to remove the spurs).

But, for those people that have spurs pressing on the nerves of the spine and causing low back pain and/or leg pain (sciatica), who are not willing to have surgery or can't have surgery because of other health conditions.injections of cortisone sometimes give relief.

They are kind of like applying an ice-pack to a stubbed toe and they can ease inflammation of the nerves which then reduces pain. While this doesn't actually remove the problem, it can provide relief of symptoms - if it does, injections can be repeated to (usual) total of 3/year. This doesn't work in every case - but in 20 years of neurosurgery I've seen it work in many.

Good luck!
