Certainly, bone spurs are the bodies way of trying to fix itself. However, just because you are still experiencing pain, doesn't mean they have grown back, it takes quite some time for a spur to form. You simply may never be completely pain free, unfortunately, back surgery is never a guarantee, and often times can make things worse. I've two neck surgeries, fusing 3of7 levels, plate and screws also. I still have nerve damage and continued pain, and some of the spurs couldn't be removed. I also have low back issues, but have decided against surgery at this time. Get your daily excercise in, no matter how bad the pain is, you must move and keep circulation going. Heating pads, rice socks, massage therapy, physical therapy, hot tubs/hot springs, all help ease pain and muscle spasms, temporarily. Having been in severe pain for 17yrs, I have tried just about everything available. Accupuncture will be my next attempt to manage the pain better. No guarantees are ever given when it comes to surgery involving the spine, some people do well and their pain is eliminated, those are the lucky few. Many will have surgery, only to find the pain worse, or no better than prior to surgery.
