Bone spurs?
I am 33. I have a bone spur on my right elbow. I have had an xray of it and it looks like a cats claw under my skin. I believe that I started to develop this a long time ago, i remember falling on ice really hard on my elbow. Recently i have bumped it here and there to the point that it almost always is a tender spot. Today I was exercising my triceps and had to change my exercise routine due to the amount of pain it was causing. It feels like I am literally being cut from the inside out. I had went to my doctor about a year or two ago , which is when I got the Xray. The doctor told me that they dont just operate on bone spurs and he sent me to someone that was going to use ultrasonics on my elbow to decrease the pain. I thought that was a really stupid idea so didnt bother with it. Can someone offer a reason why I cant have my skin opened up and a quick run of a saw and have the damn thing cut off? I have heard that it grows back over time and thats why they dont operate.?

There is something called the SAID principle. Specific adaptations to imposed demands. Essentailly your body has tried to protect itself.
If this thing is causing this much pain then get it removed. If the spur is not in the joint it is fairly simple. Basicallt they make an incision, which may or may not have to be through your triceps tendon. and they cut the spur off. However, I have seen spurs grow back.
Most often physicians will not do the surgery as a high intensity ultrasound or ESWT (extra corporeal shockwave therapy), often called lithotripsy to break up kidney stones, can be done to help breakdown the spur. If that fails, get it removed. Go see an orthopedic surgeon.Tell him you want it removed.
Recovery time is usually minimal unless they need to cut a struture (other than the skin) to get to the spur.
I think you misunderstood your doc. They DO operate on spurs but only as a last resort. You are ALWAYS better off trying other forms of therapy before going under the knife. It depends what location as well on the elbow.
The ultrasound may help in breaking the area up. I suggest you protect it so it does not get pressure put on it. Bone responds to pressure by growing. It will not on its own grow back unless there is reason for it too.
