Is there a way to get rid of bone spurs on my heel?

I think the only way is surgery

I have one which causes a lot of pain
I was told by someone that knows a podiatrist on how to do some exercises to at least ease the pain.

there is another one on which you stand facing the wall and you place you arms against it to the front and stretch each leg at it time and then repeat it with each foot
