Arthrithis,Back backache,bone spurs?
Hi all, I have horrible back agony,I was diagnosed in 2003 with arthritis&Bone spurs on my vertebrae, the doctor I was seeing then gave me distress killers and Bextra. The bextra worked so well I got rid of the stomach-ache meds...Then they took it off the market..It has gotten 100 times worse making my commission hard..It hurts worse when I'm NOT active though...I'm going to another doctor Tuesday.I have tried other anti-inflammitorys/Chricopractors/excerc... work at an animal shelter..Very stirring handling dogs all day.The antiinflammitorys mess up my belly even cause rectal bleeding is twinge medicine my only option?(I dont approaching the drugged feeling) Anyone had any surgery for bonespurs? Any other options?
Answers: I webt through a few months of agony with pay for and legs arthritic pain. The doctor put me on Zydol 200mg which is the highest strength available. It did work and as the pain get better I reduced the dosage.
I am now OK with occasional twitches for which I take Panadol single as, for the same reasons as you, anti inflammatory tablets affects my tummy and cause me an sore.
A friend of mine is currently using a machine called "Ten". I don't know how it works, but it regulates the amount of medication delivered depending on the strength of the discomfort.
I hope you will feel better soon.
Sounds to me like meds are the answer now. I hold a spur in my neck, behind a fusion. I know how it hurts. I feel great after the first surgery until the spur developed, I am planning surgery now to remove it. I don't know if surgery will help with the arthritis. The best warning I have is get at least 3 opinion before surgery and look up the doctors records also. Most states have listings of doctors and accounts pertaining to malpractice and discipline issues. Most neurosurgeons get nicked up a lot by malpractice suits, several are unjustified as the risks are high in that type of surgery. If you have question about that, ask the doc, ask for references and trust your instincts. Hi- I feel for you, as I have a bad accident 20 years ago, leaving my final, spinal area with bone spurs and cysts. Have you tried a Pain Management Clinic? This is where I walk, and they do wonders for me. I have trigger point injections in the painful site, which have long lasting pain relief agents surrounded by them. Also, I utilize a tens unit, too, in order to sustain with the pain. Have you tried "thermacare" products? These are very important in getting to the core of the pain, omitting roast for a full 8 hours. It is like having a heating wad without an electric cord. Here are a few sites below that may help you. Good luck and take attention to detail!
I have a long term back problem and arthritis and approaching you I cannot take any anti-inflammatory as they make my stomach bleed too.
Personally I would recommend Butrans 7 day transdermal patch as it give 24 hour relief from chronic pain, I was prescribed them by my local distress clinic. They are a strong opioid painkiller which contains Buprenorphine, it is one of the strongest on prescription and gives a measured hourly dose. It is very beneficial if similar to me the pain can wake you up at night, usual oral drugs are not active or strong enough and have more stomach problems especially constipation.
There are drawbacks and side effects beside the patches though, but for me the pain relief outweighs the side effects after 20 years of nearly constant headache. It may be worth trying them and seeing how you go, one benefit is that they don't make you so drowsy like other strong opiates when the right dose is stabilised.
If you draw from nerve pain a neurological drug like Gabapentin can be effectual and relieve some of the symptoms.
I have put a link at the bottom for Butrans patches.
Have you tried hydro-therapy which can comfort for arthritis and a tens machine is also worth trying if you can borrow one, it may help.
It may be an idea to consider varying jobs as cold and damp days outside can aggravate arthritis quite weakly.
Take care
Andy

There are really no cure for athritis and back pain but to aleviate it I recommend physical therapy, acupunture, glucosamine-chondroitin supplements , swiming, and you to get the impression your body to not overextend because your pain threshold
will tell you. As to managing pain whip pepcid first before taking nsaids to prevent stomach ulcer. There is definitely a
a surgery for bone spurs but it depends on the severity of
your condition
Hi, Try Omega XL...It is guaranteed to work for your problem.
Please try it since going to surgery. It is the purest form of Omega 3 which the body needs. It is a miracle in a bottle. Unfortunately if anti-inflammatories are not taken with or after food later the tummy pain and/or rectal bleeding will occur. These types of medication can cause serious side-effects including asthma attacks too. It sounds close to you were taking Voltarol.I took that several years ago and had all the symptoms you described plus diaorhea. You could try a different antiflam. but usually when you've tried a few and they adjectives do the same it's wise to avoid them altogether. We take dihydrocodeine (also specified as DF118's) for rheumatoid and osteo arthritis and on the whole are very good although at times they don't clutch the pain away, but do make it bearable. You could do with seeing a specialist contained by arthritis..rheumatologist, who could authorise hydrotherapy or physiotherapy. You cannot go through life with arthritis lacking pain medication not unless you want to be severely disabled and have to give up work. There will be a analgesic out there that suits you, you just have to carry on until you find it. Good luck x
