Bone spur / chip of tooth within gum after extraction?

I had several teeth pulled approx 1 wk ago. 3 of them along upper jaw - 2 of them hurt terribly even after several shots of numbing doesn`t matter what and gas. I was in tears due to pain. Now I hold something pushing thru the gum that is probably a bone spur and swelling is still extreme. I am extremely tender just off to the side of my snout also. Is this normal? How long can I expect pain and swelling? Should I see someone else about this backache?

Answers:    As to what is protruding through your gum it probably is a bone spur but, it could be a tooth fragment. Without seeing it you really can't tell. As to the pain that you are having at this point it should be lately sore... not painful and swollen. It is possible that you are having a dry socket infection which is very bloody and must be treated with antibiotics. So I would suggest that you not wait any longer and to see a dentist to check things out... especially when it is a holiday weekend. Don't wait until you are contained by terrible pain and can't enjoy New Years Eve!
You should perceive better soon the spurs work themselves out usually, sometimes you may need another dose of antibiotics to help with the swelling. I suggest that if you don't see a difference contained by the swelling you should go back to the doctor.
