My wife has a Heel spur she has taken two injections and medicines but no relief & the pain is bad pls advise?
Mornings are very painful One doctor has suggested surgery but want more opinions as they say surgeries are not succesful

tell her to stand in the shower and drop the wash rag on the bottom of the shower and pick it up with her toes and tell her to keep doing it ... also tell her to wear supportive shoes... and maybe some heel cushions would certainly help.. or a cortisone injection,.

have her go to a shoemaker who makes custom shoes for people with feet problems. i work in a nursing home and many of the residents have similar problems. the special shoes are expensive but make a world of difference. try massage and reflexology. sometimes relaxing the body can help. tell her no more injections. i have never heard of anyone having luck with them. surgery is very invasive. try some alternatives first. it can't hurt.
There is a exercise that helps if you do in several times a day. Sit in a chair or on the edge of the bed, with the lower part of the leg out with no support underneath it. Write the ABC's with your toes pointed up,do this about three times,several times a day. This should relieve the pain and help the heel spurs go away.
Having had heel spurs (as well as plantar fasciitis) and because I always avoid injections and surgery whenever possible, I found that the most helpful thing for me was hydrotherapy. Some doctors will prescribe and administer it, so you might want to find another doctor who will do other therapies before surgery. The trick is to have a very strong jet with spa-hot water (around 100 degrees Farenheit). This should be aimed at the heel for about fifteen to twenty minutes at a time.
The other thing is doing stretches before getting out of bed in the morning. Make several circles with the ankle first one way then the other. Then flex the toes down hard and then up hard. Do that several times before getting up. Other stretches like pushups against a wall with the legs straight and the feet flat on the ground can also help.
There are several excellent books on stretching that can show pictures of how these are done. See the website below for one.
