The heel on my foot is really tender. I don't think it's a heel spur. What else could it be?

The heel, close to my arch, on left foot is tender. Sometimes it hurts to walk and run. I try to not run at the gym now and just do the elliptical or stairs. Why might it hurt so much? Did I pull a foot muscle? It's been hurting for over a month. And no I can't see a doctor yet because my insurance has not kicked in.
It could be plantar fascitis. See a podiatrist.
It is very possible that you have plantar fasciites. Stretching exercises that involved the foot, heel and back of leg are excellent for this, if in fact that is the problem.
