I've have a heel spur for days gone by two months. My doctor suggested excercise the foot, later use an rime pack
with my foot elevated, and finally he suggested some better shoes with arch support. Can anyone add to this counsel?
Answers: Assuming he did an x-ray to see the spur, he is giving you the best advise short of surgery. If all those don't help you will want surgery, they will make a smal incison and smooth down the spur. You will be on crutches for a month or so then pain free latter.
I had heel spurs as well as Plantar Facitius. I had gone thru the gamet of treatments, gain 20 pounds b/c I could not exercise without pain. My doc did a new non-invasive procedure call Ossatron. It is a high powered laser and an ultrasound machine, they put you to sleep and then get something done the surgery. I was out for about 45 minutes and have be pain free for 3 years now! I've lost the weight and soak up normal activities! It takes a bit bit of a fight to get insurance to pay for it but it be worth it in the end. After the surgery you wear a black rocker boot for about 6 weeks consequently they (the doc) prefers that you get professional orthotics made for increased arch support and wear them as needed. I don't really wear the orthotics in my shoes anymore and continue to live agony free with a very non-invasive procedure! My doc said that most docs don't like to do the matured school invasive procedure anymore b/c you need to stay off of it for more or less 6 to 8 weeks for healing, and most ppl can't afford to that much time to take off work. I enjoy what they call Planter Fasciitis which can cause sever heel pain not necessarily heel spurs. Stretching the foot help stretch the muscle that is pulling and making your heel less cushioned. Stand on a step or board that allows you to stand on your foot where you can hold you toes and front of your foot on the stair and lower your heel below the step. This stretches the muscle and relieve the tension and I promise it really helps. I went on to a network site www.footsmart.com and purchased a night splint that I could could wear while sitting down. I also purchased a stretching device that allows you to rock to stretch the muscle as I have described above. Go to the website and click on Heel Pain & Achilles under the heading Foot Health and later click on Night Splints and Stretching aids. You might find something that fits your needs. Good Luck and Best Wishes for heels pain free.
