What is osteoporosis?

Answers:
Osteoporosis is a disease of bone in which bone mineral density (BMD) is reduced and bone microarchitecture is disrupted. Osteoporotic bones are susceptible to fracture. Osteoporosis is defined as either a bone mineral density 2.5 standard deviations below peak bone mass (20-year-old person standard) as measured by DEXA or any fragility fracture. While treatment modalities are becoming available, prevention is still the most important way to reduce fracture. Due to its hormonal component, more women suffer from osteoporosis than men.

Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break.
a bone decease.. uhm, its common to older people.
In old age, bones can start to crack, break and become more brittle but if you don't take calcium in your younger years, you'll become immobile.
Neil sounds smart, i'd listen to him - i mean, he had statistics and what not!!
is a bone disease cause by lack of calcium.
bone disease...
osteoporosis is a silent disease that cause the bones prune to fracture and, may be cured with an increase in the intake of calcium and vitamin D supported with a rehabilitation program, including physical therapy and learning safe excercise
Bones become less dense, brittle and break. Loss of calcium.
I have it so I hope we get the right answer here !!
osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disorder..it is characterized by the accerelation of the rate of bone resorption, while the rate of bone formation slows down..which in turn results is loss of bone mass. The loss of phosphate and calcium allows the bones to become brittle, porous and eventually prone to fracture..there are two forms of Osteoporosis..primary and secondary..primary is known as senile because it affects primary elderly..occuring mostly in women..Secondary occurs usually following prolonged steriod use, bone immobilization, malnutrition, excessive alcohol intake and hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)..This condition can be treated to help prevent additional fracturing by giving estrogen supplement, exercising and taking Calcium and Vitamin D supplements to support bone metabolism.well i hope this has helped!
