Why women above 40 are prone to osteoporosis compare to men above 40?
females use more calcium and iron mostly due to menstration
menopause start for some women around 40 and i learned y menopause is connected to bone lost but i cant remember right now but its menopause. thin women are more likely to develop it too most women after fourty work harder to lose weight and keep it off because they believe metabolism slows down after 40
there are 3 basic types of osteoporosis:
type1:caused by hormonal changes, especially a loss of estrogen, which causes the loss of minerals from the bones to accelerate. (yes, women at menopause)
type2: dietary deficiency, especially Vitamin D and calcium. (calcium requires Vit. D for absorption)
type3:affects men and women equally, bone loss from drug treatment or illness.
it's true that women are at a higher risk than men because of menopause, BUT your predetermination for osteoporosis is recognized in your youth!
if someone achieves max bone mass in adulthood, with large and dense bones, their bone loss will be much less of a problem later in life. who typically has larger, denser bones...men or women?
there are so many factors that contribute to this... like caffeine consumption, smoking, when you reached puberty...the list goes on, but in almost all cases the major factors are against us girls.
