Osteoporosis?
Hi
I was diagnosed with Crohns Disease in April. After 3 months of symtoms and 3 months of agnoy, im glad thats over. now im on 8 and 1/2 pills a day and some of them is a steriod called prednisone. the prednisone caused me to just be diagnosed with osteoporosis. I read on websites that this is really bad. I'm only 13! is there anything i can do aside from exersize more and take calcium supplements? any help would rock. thanks!
Answers:
Keep up with the calcium (take only as much as your doc says) and exercise- especially weight-bearing exercise, which means weight-lifting, walking/running, push-ups, etc. These exercises help strengthen your muscle & skeletal systems.
As you get older make sure your weight stays in the normal range for someone your height, since being too heavy would put a lot of stress on your already-weakened bones. Try to avoid rough sports/activities where you might end up with a fractured bone, since osteoporosis makes it easier for fractures to occur.
Good luck to you!
