I heard the other day that diet coke has been linked to osteoporosis?
has anyone else heard this?
They said there is a chemical in the drink that inhibits calcium intake.
Answers:
Actually according to my son's dental hygienist all cola is a problem for calcium intake. It also damages teeth enamel.
However; Nutrasweet is another producer of health problems all on it's own.
i havent heard that one yet but i have heard it can cos other things and also is full of chemicals coz where else to they get the fizz if there is no sugar? it cant come from sweeteners, i drink it cos i like it but not a lot, not very often!
It's the phosphorous in pretty much any soda that draws calcium from your bones, causing osteoporosis.
What makes you think diet cola is good for you? All sweetened drinks (so called 'diet' or not) are bad for you - first the effect on your teeth, second the effect on your weight, and third, in this case, the impact on calcium in the body. Buy some marble (i.e. pure calcium) scraps from a garden centre and pour diet cola on it...you'll see what I mean.
Yes a friend of mine was told that by her doctor and she has bone loss and takes Fosomax for it.
Any kind of cola can be bad because the acid leeches calium from your bones, making them weak and brittle...which leads to osteoporosis.
coca cola nearly killed me, dont reccommend it at all...not touched it in nearly 12 years now.
anything with coke or artificial sugar (which is pretty much in everything these days) in it is like poison for the body...
they health dept. tried to ban artificial sugar in US, but as you know, if u have money in the US, u can win anything in court...
