Insufficient calcium intake
-calcium is needed to maintain your body functions... so when you don't take in enough of it... the body takes calcium from where there's lots of it... your bones...

menopause
- oestrogen and progesterone are needed for osteoblastic activity... which means that they're needed to build new bone... lack of which, will lead to your bone starting to break down...

old age
- old people get osteoporosis because of a multitude of factors, primarily amongst which include menopause (refer to above), lack of physical activty (bone grows in stimulus to physical activity) and hormonal changes is the body...
