What is sereve osteoporosis?
Do you mean 'severe' osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a condition that refers to weakening of the bone structure/architecture and can increase the risk of bone fractures, especially hip fractures and vertebral fractures (spine fractures). This is particularly important if there is a falls risk. In order to prevent hip fractures, silent compression fractures of the spine (making you lose height) and pain, it is important that you talk to your doctor about starting an anti-resorptive, 'bone-strengthening' medication like Fosamax or Actonel. You also want to ensure you are taking in adequate amounts of calcium and vitamin D every day (1500 mg calcium and 800 international units of vit D), as these are necessary to bone formation. Weight-bearing exercise can also help strengthen your bones (the more weight you put on your skeleton, the stronger it will be).
Risk factors to osteoporosis include a diet low in calcium and vitamin D, a low weight (under 57 kg), longterm use of steroid medications, family history... You should talk to your doctor about the cause of your osteoporosis and the various treatment options.
