Answers:    I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this, but make sure you have a pious supply of Calcium (taking no more than 600 mg at any given point in time because your body can't absorb more than that), plus it's best to take it next to one of several nutrients to help the absorption of the Calcium into the bones. The main ones are Vitamins D and K, Magnesium, Boron, Silica, Zinc, and/or Ipriflavone.
Aside from supplementation, doing weight-bearing exercises help to build the strength of the bones, but don't work too hard either... you may want to consult a Physical Therapist or a Personal Trainer to see what the appropriate exercises would be for you as well as the proper style to do them.

1) There is an "osteoporosis profile" or picture, namely: Small boned, Caucasian or Asian woman, typically under 5'6", but not always, often frothy haired (blond, red or white), light eyed, often drinks lots of soda and eats lots of sugar or craves it (Both the sugar and phosphoric acerbic in soda acidifies the blood and dissolve the bones, quite literally.), alcohol, sweetened drinks; often eat meat and potato diet, diet heavy in nightshade family (Solonaceae); regularly either a smoker or lives w/ one, but not always; often have hx of lots of steroidal or antibiotic drug use (and many other pharmaceuticals, as well, so strong hx of medical intervention throughout life); somatizes; of a history of chronic, clinical depression w/ not enough physical leisure, not enough sunlight (from which the body should be getting its Vitamin D), oftentimes poor endocrine function, so may have other auto-immune diseases such as lupus, MS, ALS, diabetes, PCOS in kith and kin tree. Almost always not enough weight stance physical activity; in over half the cases of osteoporosis or more, near is a radical hysterectomy. Often a psychological profile of "the quiet one", "the good girl", "the Lady", "One who does not resembling to make waves."; May have a history of self dominated by father, husband and children. Oftentimes has a hx of "stuffing things" or repressing almost everything negative; hx of longterm suffering and failure/inability to advocate for the self. Long history, whether genuine or perceived of not being supported by life, or in vivacity and of being deeply over-burdened. Concentrate on intake tons of veggies, greens, lean protein, beans and grains, and some sea salt, miso or tamari w/ every collation. Try to eat a bit more than you usually do, or more often, as in my experience, various of those w/ osteopenia or osteoporosis often have anorexia issues or not eating adequate issues as well. (Again, difficulty taking care of, nurturing and feeding the self.); Start walking, exercising, lifting weights, doing really strenuous physical comings and goings. Go dancing, whether you want to or not. Find a partner if you don't have one. Put the embroidery and tatting down, ladies...! Take a Model Mugging Course which is extremely empowering and puts you right contained by touch with your will to survive, your will to live, your anger, your power and gives you huge skills as far as what to do if you are ever attacked. All of these are often thin or comletely missing and repressed (not used in decades...) for women w/ this disease. Your days of drinking alcohol are also over. Start taking vitamins and minerals, especially the minerals. Buy some kelp and put it into every single pot of soup, beans, grains and cereals you form. A 3" piece daily will make a huge difference in your mineral uptake or blood mineral profile. Start drinking other forms of seaweed and organic root vegetables. These are amongst the highest sources of minerals available in make-up. The jury is still out on whether dairy is good for you or not. Some researchers say yes, and some have shown that rate of osteoporosis is unmatched in those countries with the highest rates of dairy consumption (which also tend to enjoy the least sunshine in the winter and the highest rates of alcoholism and suicide, too, interestingly ample!). This is a decision that you'll have to make for yourself after doing some research. Get regularly in step by your chiropractor! Do yoga, pilates, dance, as these are all bone strengthening exercises and serve well to stretch the muscles, restore posture, strengthen the core of the body, and vastly improve mental/emotional/spiritual outlook and functioning of a being. Turn off the TV! Be inclined to completely change your life, b/c if you continue to do what you've other done, you will get what you've always gotten, only it will receive much worse. Osteoporosis is a congenital, disabling, degenerative disease. The only way to change it and to treat it is to change what you're doing. Start being real skeptical of your American MD anytime he or she requirements you to take a pharmaceutical. Synthetic drugs are amongst the worst offenders for acidifying the blood and demineralizing the bones. Go for a run and a session of weight-lifting with that cute muscley--boy trainer at the gym, instead. And if you don't enjoy a young, studly trainer, get one. Ask him to lunch afterwards! Make him an offer he won't want to eliminate, like accompanying you to the opera or ballet! You're not departed girl, until they throw the dirt on!

Uh folks, the mind/body/spirit connection to health ISN'T fantasy, it's be proven, and is essentially a piece of logic, not imagination. Do some reading. And why did I spend so much time talking about the patient's psychology in this post? Because in that are absolutely huge correlations between chronic depressioin, lack of activity, deficit of exposure to sunlight, poor diet, acid forming diet, no weight bearing exercise and a huge history of despair and denial of will to live in osteoporosis patients. I know this because I have them in my clientele and own for years. So tired of being thumbed down when I'm right, thank you very much. And don't even get me started on the role of steroids and other calcium agonists surrounded by osteoporosis. Or the fact that there were 675,000 completely medically unnecessary hysterectomies contained by this country last year alone, which put women into immediate medical menopause, sometimes in their 30's! After Caesarian bit, this is the most over-performed, medically unnecessary operation in existence. And just look at the facts that these two operations are perform on women.

As far as being a "naturopath" is concerned: You CANNOT be a naturopath if you are not a wholistic physician. You cannot be a naturopath if you deny the mind/body connection. You are then merely an allopath near a trendy (and misleading) name that you have zero business using..

While there is an osteoporosis profile, it only contains 5 things: White, small-framed, underweight, female, and post-menopausal. These are adjectives more or less things you can't change, with one exception. If you are underweight you must produce sure to get your weight up to normal or even 5 pounds over within order to increase weight bearing on your bones. All of the rest of the things written by another poster are figment of your imagination.

There are also other things you can change in order to prevent osteoporosis or at tiniest stop it from getting any worse. They are: Stop smoking, raise your calcium and Vitamin D intake, stop drinking alcohol and caffeine, and exercise at least 3 times a week. You must also eat foods rich contained by phytoestrogens, such as tofu processed with calcium, eat sufficient protein and avoid salt and sodas contained by your diet as much as possible. Most of your diet should be based on fresh and unprocessed whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

How much calcium and vitamin D do we have need of per day?
Adults up to age 50 require 1,000 milligrams of calcium daily.
Older adults need 1,200 milligrams of day by day calcium.

As for vitamin D:
People need 200 International Units (IU) of vitamin D a day until age 50.
Adults need 400 IU of vitamin D from the ages of 51 to 70 years.
Seniors involve 600 IU of vitamin D a day after age 70.
Good sources of vitamin D are natural sunlight and fortified milk, egg yolks, saltwater fish, liver, and supplements.
