Does anyone have any information about spinal stenosis (severe)?

my mom was just diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis, among like 4 other severe things wrong with her back. I know it is pretty serious, but i do not know much about it. I would like to know what the effects of it are (what happens to you when you have it), why it occurs, any info you may have. You have no idea how much i will appreciate it.
