What does Pre-Op for Lumbar Spinal Fusion consist of?
I have been diagnosed with cronic deterioration disc desease. I am having Lumbar Spinal Fusion and was told I need to do a pre-op before the surgery.
Answers:
pre op means a physical by a physician to determin the risk of bleeding, infections, or risk of heart attack during the surgery, they'll talk, they'll examine and give their conclusion, good luck
They will teach you how to get in and out of bed and how to move after your surgery, you will have to not eat any thing probably starting midnight before surgery and they will tell you exactly what they are going to do. and get you to sign all the consents. They will usually have you meet with the anasthesiologist that will be taking care of you as well, to make sure you do not have any history of problems related to general anasthesia. You will get an IV and they may give you pre-op medications like reglan which is given to help empty the stomach before surgery. They should explain everything to you before it's done. If you have any questions or concerns make sure you ask somebody before you have your surgery.
