Spinal Bifita unexpected.?
I had an MIR of my kidneys. The urologist said."oh I see you have spina Bifita" What I asked what? he changed the subject. I assume it is internal becasue I am a middle aged woman. I have always had back problems and urinary problems. My tailbone hurts when I lay on my back. I can't believe that no doctor in my entire life has never told me.? What can I do about it now at this phase of life? Will it get worse as I age? Is this why I have had so many health problems in my life?

Did the report say spina bifida occulta? My guess is that is what the MRI report said. Spina bifida occulta is non fusion of the posterior part of the lumbar vertabrae and is of no clinical significance. Most radiologist don't mention it b/c if freaks people out. My guess is you don't have a the real thing otherwise you would of had severe neurological problems. Spina bifida occulta is only seen on MR or CT scans. You can ask for a copy of the report, don't stress too much about it.
