I am going to have my second spinal fusion in December. I am in lots of pain and now the doctor is going to?
remove the equipment, explore, and refuse using new material, also fusing the disc above the previous fusion. The nerves on my right side are being compressed. Has anyone gone through this twice with any luck? Please help

Honey I've been through 5 lumbar fusions. It's good that he's going to remove the hardware while he's in there. You feel much better without it. However, if the original fusion isn't solid, he'll have to replace the hardware when he does the revision. It is also very common for the disc spaces above & below the site to also have problems because they are under more stress than before. When you end up with a fusion at multiple levels believe it or not they become stronger. Although the pain squarely in the middle of my lower back is still present, the pain that I had that radiated down my leg is gone. I say go for it honey, you really have nothing to lose & quite a bit to gain. Especially if pain control is your objective.
I haven't gone thru it twice, but I have once, and maybe having to go thru again here shortly. I feel your pain everyday and sympathize with you. These surgeries are very dangerous, but you like me;don't really have much of a choice. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I don't think luck has anything to do with it,you were strong enough to make it thru it once; you can do it again. God Bless!
the pro wrestler, and former olympic gold medallist, Kurt Angle went through this process twice. if you do a google search for TNA wrestling you'll find his profile. he has an autobography out which details the process. could be worth a look.
I had 2 major back surgeries last yr, the first one they put in what is called the Blackstone Hardware..well, i didn't wear my brace like i was suppose it and it started coming apart..i had 2 rods with 4 screws in each rod..well, it had to be taken out and he fused my lumber, i have very bad scoliosis. Well, it still hurts and i still have to take pain meds but at least i can stand up straight...i was leaning to the right really bad cause i had a 46 degree curve in my spine....my back specialist told right from the get go that he could not fix me 100% but that he could fix me 80% and it has helped.but i have never had to have a second spinal fusion but that is not that i may not have to have one down the road? I feel for you cause i know the pain you are in....but i wish you well and GOOD luck!
