Fifteen years ago the technique was to immobilize the neck by placing one forearm at the center of the chest with a hand cupping the chin and the other forearm along the spine with the hand cupping the back of the head. Then the patient could be rolled. I know this was good for a shallow water rescue, but I don't remember if it applied to deep water rescues as well.
