How much pain is associated with a spinal tap?

i very nervousam having my first spinal tap done this friday-please advise-i am

Answers:
It is pretty painful; I would ask your doctor if you can have a relaxant, like Ativan, before the procedure if you're really anxious about it because being tense will only make it worse. Or, ask about a pre-procedure pain medication to decrease the actual pain you will feel.
The only pain you will feel is like a quick bee sting. I have had 3 spinals.and the only pain is the numbing medication. It will be all over before you notice it. Do not worry...you will hardly feel it. I will pray for you as well.
