Can u be put out during a spinal tap?

Answers:
For a spinal tap or lumbar puncture you can be put out. My son had one done last month and he was completely out before the procedure. They may not always put an adult under to do this, but it isn't that it can't be done, they may just expect you to be able to deal with it.

Some of the answers make me question if you mean spinal tap or an epidural. An epidural is done awake, but it doesn't go into the dura of the spine like a tap does. They are different procedures and you can have longer lasting pain from the tap. My son required morphine for two days after from the back pain caused by the tap.
It's not bad going in but when the needle goes out , it take about 30 minutes depend on the tech have it done 2X.
they will just do a local
no need for being "put out"
being 'put out' during a spinal tap would pretty much be a redundant act. The reason for a spinal tap is block pain so the doctor/surgeon doesn't have to give you anestia. It reduces risk of reaction to the anestia.
unfortunately no... you are awake. do your best to remain perfectly still during it if you are having one ,to prevent any spinal/ nerve damage , best wishes!
If necessary anesthesia can be used for a spinal tap but it's really not that bad. Sedation can be used in most cases and you should ask the doctor if you are nervous. It's important not to move with a needle near your spinal cord after all.

After the procedure, you want to lie flat as long as directed to help prevent headache.

For spinal or epidural anesthesia it is not common to put someone "out."
