What does it mean when a spinal tap is done and they have a hard time getting any fluid?

When you get a spinal tap, Normaly they have a needle that is sortof like a syringe only it has no chamber like its open.

They make you lie on your side and put the needle into your back alowing spinal fluid to release into a cup or other sampling device. Apparently it is pretty painful.
the simple answer is that if the doc doesn't get fluid... is that you're either an alien, or he/she MISSED!! if they get the needle into the right spot there is ZERO POSSIBILITY not getting fluid. if we didn't have fluid we would not be alive. that fluid is irreplacable. there is no synthetic form of it. it cusions, lubricates, and carries the oxygen and nutrients to the brain and around the spinal column.

its hard to get fluid sometimes due to the patient being in a lot of pain and the doctor feels bad for them. cuz most of the time they have to "FISH" for the spot by 'adjusting' the tip of the needle a bit back and forth until they get a fluid return. THAT IS WHAT HURTS THE MOST. like being stabbed in the small of your back and the pressure feeling is alot.
