Are you supposed to get a spinal block for a c-section?

Answers:
You can have a spinal block or an epidural. I've had both. If the epidural is already in place, more medication will be pumped into it for a c-section. The spinal takes effect immediately, while the epidural can take 20 minutes to numb you completely. If the c-section is planned in advance, I would definitely go with the spinal block. The effect is the same, but the spinal wore off much more quickly afterward. In an extreme emergency, general anasthesia is used, and the mother will not be awake for the birth of her child.

I suppose that would depend on if it was a planned or emergency one.
Epidural.it is an option. there are side effects to that like pain inthe future from the puncture. Try to get by without an epidual. There are several options like a cervical block, Nubain etc. Ask your nurse!!
That's what I had. And it pretty much works immediately. And it works very good. I couldn't feel a thing until they take the baby out, they have to put pressure on your chest...it feels like someone sitting on your chest, but it doesn't hurt or anything like that. But the block is pretty freaky. Later in my room when I was still numb I touched my legs.my hand could feel it, but I couldn't feel my hand on my leg, kinda cool! GOOD LUCK!

by the way.mine was planned due to the position of my son, not emergency.
