24 years weak and spinal fussion surgery?

I am 24 with L4,L5,S1 herniated disks. Doc has me on pain killer which work pretty good, but he is kind of pushing towards surgery. If he would just hold me on these meds I will be fine for a while. Surgery is not an option but he doesnt take me serious...he thinks I am afraid of surgery or something...I am afraid of comlications contained by such an important part of my body...spinal cord. I cannot afford to become paralized...no insurance and I am head of household supporting my lil bro and putting him through college, and supporting my mother because my father passed away not too long ago. I enjoy no health insurance am self employed in landscaping. Any suggestions?
You must do something, you can't stay on painkillers for the rest of your energy. My suggestion to you is to get a second opinion and see if there are other alternatives. Get online and swot up as much as you can. Educate yourself about it and you will be able to make an informed outcome. There is surgery called a discectomy where they just purloin off the disc part that is bulging and it is relatively minor surgery. I don't know if you are a aspirant for it or not. Good Luck. Reader's Digest had an article on back pain a few months ago. They nominated some of the alternatives. My Pain Doctor did spinal cord injury research before his present position and he chants " 100%, NO SURGERY!" The only personality I've known to praise spinal surgery was a friend who had broken his collar and was in a Stryker Frame. He regained his cleverness to walk. Others have regretted it.
Medical technology is moving forward at warp speed. You are young and it would be tragic to do irrepairable despoil to yourself through surgery.
Meanwhile, you may qualify for some disability, and your family may be able to get other assistance. You want good support and therapy. Landscaping is pushing your safety confines. Try water therapy if you can, to get the shipment off your back.
