What is an example of spinal cord reflex?
Knee jerk
A strange spinal cord reflex is keeping an erection down. As erections are controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system(the feed and breed side) and the spinal cord carries nerves for the sympathetic nervous system, a spinal cord injury can result in a priapism or erection that persists.
A reflex that is prevented by the spinal cord is the Babinski reflex. It is known as an infantile reflex because it is present in children up until about age two. When a small object like a pen is run up the bottom of the foot and the big toe flexes upward a person is said to have a Babinski reflex, the normal finding in an adult with an intact spinal cord is all the toes flexing.
