Spinal fusion, how to handle pain 11 yrs later?

I crushed a vertabrae in a car accident 11 yrs ago. At the time I was a very immature 18yo who had too much pride. I didn't go to my routinue check ups and now 11 yrs later I am dealing with pain but the doctors office that I went to when this happened said it's too late and I am not able to see this doctor. What options do I have?

Answers:
What do you mean by "too late"? Does this refer to the insurance, damage caused by too much time passing, or what?

You may seek a second opinion. That would be the first step. Chronic pain comes with its own side effects. I am still in pain after surgery almost 12 years ago.

The healthiest advice would be to seek another opinion and ask that doctor what your options are and what would he suggest for pain management.

I have a great circle of friends that give me support in my pain. My faith in God and who I am in Christ is another source of support for me. Keeping busy by helping others, counseling, and being a ray of sunshine during someone's dark moment puts my pain on the back burner for awhile.

Anything that you can focus on that is positive, that will cause you to exert energy in something or someone else will give you temporary relief from your pain plus it will give you a boost in your self-worth.

I am sorry to hear that you suffer with pain, and truly hope you find a way to relieve it or manage it.
I have no idea why they still wouldn't see or treat you know. Go to another Dr. and get the treatment you need. I wasn't in a car accident but I was young when I was doing things to my back that caught up to me later in life.

In the last several years I've been getting treatment for chronic pain. They may not be able to do some of the things they might have if you had gotten treatment right away but there are a number of treatment options that should still be available to you.
Go and see your GP. They will be able to prescribe you some pain relief. They will also be able to refer you to a spinal consultant. I would also suggest that if you can go and see a chiropractor as they will be able to help with the manipulation etc. of the spine. Your GP may also be able to refer you to a NHS chiropractor.

Goodluck and hope you manage to get some help soon x
