Spinal nerve block for low back pain?

I have been having lower back pain for awhile now..I have been taking pain medication when needed...Now my Doctor wants me to have a nerve block...I've heard this is only temporary and sometimes does not help at all...Has anyone ever had a nerve block and is it painful? And has it helped?

Answers:
are you talking about the machine? the nerve block/ stim machine or you talking about the needle, with pain medication? If is the stim machine which is what we use in physical therapy office you can have one by prescription and put it on your back according to what they Dr. recommend. You can put it on for about 20mins, and helps with pain, but it wont take it away, it wont cure your back pains. If is the nerve block as in medication, as in pain management, well again...it just works temporarily the injection.
Try massage therapy, it might help you with the low back pain, maybe is spasms in lower back and they can help with that.
Good luck ^i^
Is a pretty common thing for delivery. But he is right.. it is only temporary... an anesthetic. Would consider visiting a doctor of Chiropractic before submitting to such a procedure. That condition is one they see routinely.
