How does spinal meningitis affect older adults? As in their fifties?

My cousin is 52 years old and became very ill about 2 weeks ago. She is in ICU in a Texas Hospital. She has spinal meningitis. Doctors did not diagnose her until a couple of days ago, so she has already had this disease for about 2 weeks. I have never heard of nor can I find through searches any information about this disease in our age group. I am extremely worried about her and want more information about this disease in our age group.
Viral or Bacterial. I am guessing Viral. There is no age group "normal" for meningitis. The effects would be on the nervous system. If she is in ICU for 2 weeks already, she will have ICU associated deconditioning as well. http://www.lycos.com/info/meningitis--vi...
