What does it mean when the white blood cell count is high after having a spinal tap?

my husband had a spinal tap a couple of weeks ago and it showed that he had a high count of white blood cells. and the doctors dont seem to know whats wrong with him. he has had these unbearable headaches and he cant seem to shake them off. and no amount of OTC medicines seems to work. plus he has been to the ER for injections of heavy narcotics to take the headaches away. i just need some answers if it is possible. thanks.

Answers:
An elevated white blood cell count is usually indicative of an infection; either local or systemic. However, there are other rare circumstances and autoimmune disorders which could cause an elevated WBC. You should consider seeing a specalist if the doctors at the hospital are unable to provide care. I also find it odd that they used narcotics to treat headache. That is the last recommended method for treating them.
