The hospital may help you, just to shut you up. A impossible reputation can do a hospital major harm.
Just be wary of slander and liable.
How on planet can any hospital make a mistake like that.
It makes me so angry when this sort of piece happens and I agree they should be held accountable.
In Australia it almost impossible to take them to court I do believe compensation should be given surrounded by cases like this after all the lad has a natural life time in that wheel chair,it make me wonder how these doctors can sleep at night.
The only way you can perchance make them take a look at it is through television describe the hospital, but then again be careful of libel.
Here I have see blunders where people have died through miss diagnosis
i am so sorry to hear your story.
this must be completely awful for you and you are so brave and strong to face-off for your boy.
i don't know which country you live in (we don't all live in the us of a you know!) but I would seize help via the spinal unit or the spinal cord injury association. you need a devout lawyer who will fight your corner and who will get you some generous of compensation.
having said this, there are risks involved in spinal surgery, of which you will own been warned prior to signing consent forms. these risks may have cause the quadriplegia, rather than perceived 'mistakes' or 'faults'.
a central line placement is other checked prior to infusing anything through the line, it is highly unlikely that large volumes of fluid would own been infused into the 'wrong' space.
then there is the issue of 'they said' they would 'give' you the hillrom bed. WHO said this and who is paying for this? hospitals do not hold funding to 'give' people expensive hillrom beds . they might 'loan' you one or help you find ways of loaning one from the hillrom company? hold you written to the company yet?
insurance companies will not 'help' you in the sense of offering you advise or even money, they are COMPANIES and are concerned beside MONEY, not your wellfare! YOU need to get some good court advise and legal help to find some avenues to grasp some financial aid.
good luck.
You do not say WHY your son needed this surgery?
Any surgery to the spine comes with extreme 'risks' and I expect you be forewarned this 'might' happen. Likewise you signed a consent form. I cannot state if the surgery was needed, have no grounds for the surgery. However as the Parent you were told the risks, you made the decision, you signed the consent. The Doctors did the best they could and the outcome was not successful, so that is to say it. Likewise that is the reason why the lawyer pulled out! I hold a prolapsed disc in my spine and 'assumed' that I would be heading for surgery as the pain is extreme and I loose my legs and am at high risk for loosing my bowel and bladder. However, no surgery unless I loose the bowel and bladder. Then they will remove the disc next to NO GUARANTEE that I will regain bowel, bladder or leg function. Spine surgery is always HIGH RISK. Best of Luck
