I use a soft ball-buy at the dollar store (about the size 4-5"), lay on the floor and place the ball under your back with your knees up, feet down. Place the ball where you feel pressure. leave it there, until you feel relief. Use cold compacks and motrin.
As far as excersise, there are lots on the internet-too many to mention.
Do not do any back exercises without medical clearance
Spinal disc dislocation can range from little back pain and discomfort at times to problems of mobility. The person should consult back specialists before what's apprpriate. I emphasize back specialists because many family practice physicians do not have required trainings and experience for the proper assessment.

Swimming could be an option but only after you discussed with the doctor.
