My dad suffers from spinal stenosis condition. Will heating pads help the pain as well as taking medications?

Possibly considering heat helps a lot of people when it comes to stiffness. It probably wouldn't hurt to try. I would also getting massages because they help to release tension. Like any disease of the bones, movement and massage are good to help try and reestablish flexibility.
I'm not sure if it'd help the pain he's having at that minute, however. Heat pads and massage can sometimes cause pain, but they help to lessen any in the future.

I am not a fan of heating pads. They really heat the skin, and in some older ones caused burns. The best type of heat is a warm moist heat. One can get this from warm water from a whirlpool, or a bath or even letting shower water run for a while on the back. Moist heat penetrates and is much more therapeutic.

instead of heating pad let your father try shart wave diathermy.which gives deep heat,
acupuncture is helpfull.
in some cases treatment with soft lasers has given miraculous results.
