How is lubrication used for urinary catheterisation in case of spinal epidural in men?
Is it given in every case?
How is it given?
How long do the nurse waits after cleaning the glans, to insert the catheter?
Is the patient naked or covered thoroghly except the penis?
Are family/ attendants allowed to be present?
Answers:
1) Sterile water-based lubricant used on the catheter before insertion - it is generously lubricated to ease passage.
2) The catheter is lubed as I said in #1
3) The catheter is insterted almost immediately after everything is cleaned and lubricated
4) The patient is usually covered unless there are other procedures going on such as would happen in an emergency room situation
5) Family members/fiends would be allowed ONLY in the most unusual circumstances. I catheterized over 500 men and NEVER had a friend or family member present. Other medical staff can be present to observe and learn and occasionally to assisst.
You appear to have an unnatural curiosity for this.
1- If you have been given spinal anesthesia you won't feel a thing.
2- Lubrication is always used; otherwise the catheter would not insert.
3- If a catheter is inserted without spinal anesthesia, it is moderately uncomfortable.
4- It is inserted as soon as the glands are cleaned.
5- You will be exposed, but draped for the procedure.
6- Your family will not be able to watch.
I hope this has answered your questions.
I don't think those things have anything in common, i think you are throwing big words around without knowing what they mean.
