Where can I find protective equipment to prevent Spinal Chord Injury?

This would pertain to sports,or work, any activity that could cause sudden impact, that could damage the Spinal Chord, resulting in paralysis. Partial or complete.

Answers:
A spinal cord injury often is caused by trauma to the neck or the cervical portion of the spine. This can be a hyperflexion or hyperextension type injury, or a crush injury. Any of these severe forces to the cervical spine can easily injure the spinal cord. Unfortunately there is not much in the way of equipment that will protect against this. Helmets protect the head not the spine. I have seen football players wear that large pad in the neck area to prevent a hyperextension to the spine but that is all I can think of. As you know several football players have been permanently paralyzed from the game. One way to help prevent these devastating injuries if not to do something stupid. Don't go diving in shallow water, or if you do not know the depth, and don't go flailing around on four wheelers doing crazy things I have seen on shows like Max X. Use common sense, it sounds like you have lots and that will serve you well.
