Anyone know anything about spinal taps?
i had a spinal tap done today. the dr told me to push fluids exspecially caffine...why caffiene?

A spinal tap removes precious fluids from within the spinal cord. You need to continue to drink lots of fluids to help build that up again. Those fluids act as cushions for all the nerves in the spinal cord.
Caffeine is a diuretic...which causes dehydration - the exact thing you're trying to avoid. Also, caffeine can increase the chances of a spinal headache when your spinal fluid levels are already low.

Because a lot of times spinals can give people excruciating headaches (spinal headaches - I had one for 3 months straight after having my first child!) and for some reason the caffeine staves off the pain of a spinal headache. I don't know why it works, but it definately does! Try not to lay flat for 48 hours either...
