What is a spinal tap? Does it hurt?
Answers:
A spinal tap is also called a lumbar puncture. The doctor inserts a needle into the spinal canal, usually in the lumbar (lower back) area in order to draw a small amount of your CSF ( cerebral spinal fluid) for testing. CSF is the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. The procedure can be uncomfortable, if you are worried ask if they can give you sedation before beginning.
Spinal Tap was a great movie. I laughed so hard it hurt.
they insert a needle into your spine to check for bacterial infections such as meningitis. and yes it is very painful.
A spinal tap is where they stick a needle in to your spinal column to get fluid from your spine. If they don't numb it. it will hurt
I had one about 15 years ago. it does hurt but not as bad as you may think. the needle is huge! so it is more intimidating than pain. I made the mistake of looking at the size of the needle. don't just lay on your stomach and close your eyes.
it feels more weird than pain.
good luck
Probably not as bad as you think it will. They should use a numbing agent. Might cause headaches for a while, but if it needs to be done, a little pain is better than the alternative
A spinal tap is where they put a needle into your back, and take out some of your spinal fluid to check for infections like Menigitis, and other things. It does hurt a little, but it's not too bad.
