What is a spinal block like?
Does it hurt a lot? Does it do a good job blocking the pain? What are the side effects or after effects? Any risks? How likely? Thanks -- Joni

I had a spinal block when I had my second C-section 7 years ago. The initial injection was really uncomfortable, but after that I didn't feel a thing. They really did a good job of numbing me. They made the first incision to get my daughter out, and I wasn't even aware of it. Afterwards, when it started to wear off, my legs were shaky for a while, but that was the only thing I didn't like. As far as risks- they just have to be really careful not to hit your spinal nerves- but you are bent over really far, and that gives them good maneuvering room so that isn't likely to happen. Overall, I thought it was a MUCH better choice than my first C-section anesthesia of the epidural, which didn't hardly numb me at all, and I felt most of my surgery. Good luck to you!!
my spinal block did not hurt that much. it was not fun but it wasn't God-awful painful either. and yeah, it blocked the pain!! i had two side effects... i had uncontrollable shaking and shivering. i also had big red splotches all over my legs and belly afterwards.
