Most likely the result would be parapalegia. The higher up the spinal damage, the more limbs would be affected. Good example is Christopher Reeves who sustained a C1-C2 injury. He was a quad. Hemiplegia usually results from a stroke.
The spinal cord is divided by the vertebra that each pair of nerve roots come out from. There are 7 cervical vertebra; 12 thoracic; 5 lumbar vertebra and the rest are coccyx and sacral. Thus T1 is the first (of 12 thoracic) and L1 is the first lumbar. A cord transection between T1 and L1 has 12 areas. Each pair of spinal root nerves exit the vertebra and go straight/down (never up) and innervate a dermatome. Therefore resultant damage is completely dependent upon the level of transection. Thus a C3 injury--you can't breathe--you damage the phrenic nerve that goes to the diaphragm (C3-5) like Christopher Reeve. Upper arm/body function is handeled by the cervical to Thoracic nerves (not cut)--so you would not be a quadraplegic (all 4 limbs paralyzed) T1-L1 is a lower regin so only lower legs would be eftected depending on where--so you would be a paraplegic.
A hemiplegic is paralysis on haly the body (on the same side) and results from a brain lesion such as a stroke. Spinal shock is a bruise to the cord with some or all recovery of function; which a transection does not do.
paraplegic. quad is all 4 limbs and hemi is one side of the body.
