I need a Spinal Fusion for a severe case of Scoliosis (78 degrees) Is it worth it? What can I expect?

I found out on Thursday that I need a spinal fusion operation for a severe case of Scoliosis. It is a 78 degree curve, I have tried tons of other things (Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, the Chiropractor) I went from 43 to 78 in just a few months. What can I expect from the operation?

I also have Cerebral Palsy. Will this change the outcome of the operation?

Answers:
I was born with congential kyphosis and scoliosis.. I had mine fused in 1969.. I'm 53, played sports(did stop contact sports).. I continue to work out run etc..I had 7 fused. Not sure how they count it.but I believe it was 5-12 t that was fused.. I never had a problem.. I did things that I wasn't supposed to do.. like ride a motorcycle, play golf.. For me.. It was well worth it. I was in pain up until 10th grade.. Got hurt catching(baseball game my sophmore yr) and went to see a specialist in the S.F. Bay Area.. the rest is history.. Scoliosis is found more in teen girls..but like myself.. I met several other males with slight or severe curatures.. Also, I played on 4 softball teams up until I was 40 and then quit.. not because of my back. I just got burnt out. Good luck. I'd do it again If I had too..
