I've got an appointment with a spinal surgeon, i'm expecting him to sugest spinal fusion, has anyone had it ?
I am wondering, what it consists of, how long it takes to recover & what is the chances of it working, and the future?
Answers:
I've had it. One spinal release, and then a spinal fusion, with 2 weeks of traction in between. It's pretty simple...they cut into you, and then they use titanium rods to support the spine. I spent 3 weeks in the hospital after the surgery, about 2 months at home recovering, and it's now been a year since the surgery and I have "full clearance" to do anything just like anyone else.
It has an extremely high success rate, and if you're trying to avoid/slow down/stop scoliosis (like I was) it will never come back. And I had extremely severe scoliosis, so you can trust me (mine was 120 degrees by the time i got to the surgeon).
As for the future, you shouldn't be any different then anyone else.
If you're young, look for alternatives.
"spinal fusion" think about this. They are going to fuzz your back to a titanium rod. Is this not going to stop that section of your back from bending? If it does, why wouldnt the rest of your back **** on you as a result of having to change your posture and the way you do everything in life? There are two routes for surgery. I suggest taking the other one.
