Is the "Space Age" Spinal decompression (DRX 9000) any good for lumbar pain? How about Spinal decompression?

I ahve problems with my L5 disc and it really causes significant problems with my training and overall life. I stretch when I can after a workout. I'm about to go into Law Enforcement and obviously can not worry about this.

I discovered the DRX 9000 some time ago and am hoping maybe this is a good idea? Anyone with thoughts who has experienced this or any sort of decompression? What about just an inversion table?
I was told some time ago I may need surgery, however I'm only 26 and I feel too young to let this slow me down. I appreciate any knowledgable information!

Thanks!

Decompression is just that. It is surgery to take away the source of whatever is pressing on a nerve. I understand that decompression really only helps to take away pain that radiates (if it works as it is supposed to). And the post surgical scarring (internal scarring) can make the whole thing even worse than before (in some cases).

I injured my back at age 9, and my body naturally fused the spine on one side. I still can have back pain, at times.

I don't know the DRX9000, but if exercise and toning up the abdominals (including chin ups - when your body weight is acting as a traction machine for your entire spine) does not naturally relieve the pain, you may want to reconsider your occupation. Definitely check out if you would pass the pre-employment physical if you had to tell the doctor or have him see the scars.
I am 27 years old and have had surgery on my L4-5 disc and have tried everything. The DRX 9000 didn't work for me and I have found that most anything that sounds too good to be true is usually just that. There are conservative measures you can take, but through a pain management doc. There are nerve blocks, injections, steriod treatment, stronger anti-inflamatories etc... I have also tried the inversion table, thanks to that I was sent in for my 2nd surgery at the same level! I do not trust it and would not suggest trying it. I do know people that swear by it, but know the risk involved personally. Even though I have had had 3 surgeries at the same level, it's not because surgery was bad. I have a spinal disease and would suggest getting an MRI, confirming the level that is herniated and see if it impinges on the Sciatic nerve roots. If it doesn't impinge any nerves then 100% conservative measures. If it is impinging on nerves then I would suggest a micro-discectomy. This is a VERY easy surgery and recovery time is but several weeks. Most people return to work in 3-5 weeks. Most people are off pain meds 1-2 weeks after surgery. Hope this helps!
