Have you ever had a spinal tap/lumbar puncture?
I've always dreaded having this proceedure done and so far i've been lucky but i was wondering what it is like.
Answers:
i did twice, both times I had meningitis and like the person above head pain far outweighed that, the one thing I do recall was when they drew off the fluid I felt as if a huge amount of pressure had been taken off of my head.....
Not too bad and certainly MUCH less worse than what I was being treated for....
Regards
Yes, many years ago when I had meningitis. It was not the most pleasant procedure I have ever had, but it was a way to diagnose what was wrong with me. The headache I was having was far worse pain then the LP!
Yes, The procedure was not that bad they explained everything. The painful headache afterwards was of the worst I can remember at that time. You have to lay perfectly flat for hours afterwards.
My spinal tap was also due to meningitis. they did a pretty good job of numbing the area, but it was still quite a hard push, not the type of thing i would want to do again.
but the options were worse.
I also had cortisone injections in my lower back. i dreaded it because of the spinal tap. it was done and over so quickly, i didn't even know they started.
I had a spinal tap which confirmed I had Multiple Sclerosis.
I've always been pretty good with taking needles and prods.
Actually, I didn't even feel it. It was done right in my hospital bed and when the Dr. told me he was done, I was surprised because I didn't even realize it. It was really quick and painless for me.
it is very painful. that is all i can tell you.
I had one done when I was 2, for meningitis. But I have no memories of it.
i had one done when i had meningitis. the headache pain was horrible. i didn't even feel the LP. they numbed it up well and my doc was awesome. i didn't even realize he was done until he told me.
