3 disk spinal fusion? Anybody had one?
And if so let me know how you're doing. I had mine in Dec. 2005 and still have pain, (not near as bad as before) is this normal?
Answers:
I havent had this but have helped a number of people in their rehab
it is quite common to still have pain after the op - and sadly for the rest of your life - often this will ease over a 2 year period but I dont kow anyone who ends up pain free
the good news is if its less the op has been a success
you do need to make sure you are regaining your back and abdominal strength and keep these up as they will help - as well as that keep your weight down and keep as mobile and fit and flexible as the fusion and pain allow
good luck
No but it sounds wonderful
i had c-spine fusion (c-3,4,5) 12 yr ago. unfortunately, it took about 5 yrs for the pain to shrink to a tolerable level. they said it was successful, so i should be satisfied. you just eventually learn to live with it. i also have 3 lumbar disks that need to be "fixed/fused" but i choose not to let them even try. i don't want to go thru that again. the bad thing is, that every 8-10 months, i end up in physical therapy again, to go thru all the strengthing exercises and e-stim to block the pain. i don't know which is worse, but i won't let them touch me with a knife again. i wish you all the luck...
I had most of my spine fused in 2001. It took about 3 years before I felt better! I still take pain meds, but it was so bad at first that I actually felt worse. Now the pain is manageable and I am fairly active. I found that working out on the Gazelle fitness machine helped. It strengthed my muscles without any stress at all on my back. made a huge difference for me.
