Spinal "adjustments"?
Have you ever been to a chiropractor who DIDN'T suggest an adjustment be made to your spine to make all things better? Can one conclude that ALL patients benefit from the procedure every visit? Why are all such "adjustments" temporary, in that they need to be repeated each visit?
Answers:
Well, an adjustment never hurts. I think with all of the things we do each day from sitting, sleeping to physical activities, our spines need lots of adjusting.
I dont know if all patients benefit from the procedure every visit, but I know that the procedure is not harmful and I know I benefit from each visit.
Adjustments are temporary because our muscles are untrained to hold the adjustment. My chiropractor actually taught me exercises to strengthen the muscle groups I was having trouble with.

isn't that why you go to a chiropractor?

The adjustment simply getting the lubricating fluid that is supposed to be between the joints back in there where it belongs. By seperating the bones a little, the fluid rushes back between them. This causes the popping sound.
It is necessary to repeat the procedure because the fluid does not stay. However, this does not mean that you have to go in for an adjustment every two weeks just because the dr says so. If you are uncomfortable, get it done. If you feel no pain, don't go.
An "adjustment" is a bit outdated term for a spinal mobilization or manipulation (6 and 1/10 of another). They don't have to be repeated forever. The point is to first loosen up the joint, spinal or otherwise, then the time between appointments should be stretched out once the person is out of pain. Many people come to my practice once or twice a year to maintain spinal flexibility, but it's not required.
well, there are a LOT of quacks in that business.but not all.
The reason they have to readjust is that your muscles pull the spine back out of place especially if it has been out for some time. I do not agree with the contracts most of them want you to sign.I think THAT is a ripoff and a half!! BUT, I can attest to being able to turn my head after a session when I could not before. And, my son fell out of a tree on his head and had serious spasms that were relieved after several sessions. I would recommend it before drugs!
Adjustments are only for people with spinal misalingments.
My chiropractor told me that adjustments are only temporary until the joint is used to being in the correct position. Kind of like wearing braces. That is why you sometimes need to go back a couple of times.
