Will a spinal headache definetly go away on its own?

If so after how long? its been 9 days since I have had one.

Answers:
FIRST OFF, how do you know you have a spinal headache? It is important to rule out other causes of headache. Most ominous are extreme headaches accompanied by flu-like symptoms: high fever, stiff neck, pain with leg bending etc. If this is the case go to an emergency room for a medical evaluation! If not read on...

A spinal headache is caused by a "hole" in the dura mater, the investing layer of the spinal cord. This hole can be caused iatrogenically; either inadvertently during an epidural, or as a result of an intentional dural puncture (spinal "tap" or spinal anesthetic).
It is possible for a spinal headache to resolve on its own. However, there are cases in the literature where the headaches have gone on for several years... Usually for a known puncture headache, the physician initially will prescribe conservative measures: bed rest, drink caffeinated beverages, stay well hydrated and take pain pills. If after 3 days, or so, symptoms have not resolved, then an epidural blood patch may be indicated. Once an epidural blood patch is performed, relief is usually immediate.
Talk to your doctor about how long the headaches can occur. You are more likely to get one if you get out of bed or sit up quickly - take it slow. My mother had them on and off for about 4 weeks after her spinal.
You may need a patch where you had the spinal done. It will fix you up quickly. You shouldn't have a headache for 9 days after a spinal. Go to the doctor.
a spinal headache? that sounds painful.
Just drink a lot of water to keep yourself hydrated. It will go away soon enough.
