Is spinal fusion surgery a good idea?

I have already had surgery in 2005 on my L-4 and L-5, S-1 it was the micro surgery. Well I hurt the same disc's again and my doctor said that the fusion in the next step. Has anybody gone through this fusion surgery? And if so do you regret it?

Answers:
C5-C6 fusion. Alls well except stiffness every morning!
My mom has had 3 fusions. (including a 360) She is getting ready to go in for her 4th that just blew. He life is much better now that it has been done. She has a normal life and is pretty much pain free. She still has to be careful though. This last one blew because a fellow employee got ticked and shoved her 300lb body into my mom as she was passing and twisted her.
My ex-husband had the same micro surgery about 3 yrs ago. He developed alot of scar tissue at the site and now has chronic "sciatic" pain down his right leg. The newest FDA approved surgery might be another option for you- artifical disc. Spinal fusion (in my opinion) should only be considered as a last resort. The fused area places extra stress on the vertebre/discs above and below the fused area. Depending on your age, you could be looking at surgery on these "strained" areas 10 yrs down the road. Check into it!! Best of luck
