Is spinal meningitis in dogs contagous to humans?
My neighbors dog has been diagnosed with spinal meningitis and I was wondering if it can be transmitted to humans?
Nope it is not contagious to humans. This type of meningitis is called steroid responsive menigitis. The tissue around the spinal cord gets swollen. It is different than bacterial meningitis which is extremly contagious and is a bacterial infection. This type of meningitis that dogs get is similar to an auto immune disease. So basically the body is attacking itself.
