About spinal taps what all do they look for?

What if any medication become prersent when u look at the fluid that is thken out. i kow how they are done and most times why but i can't find any thing if any types of medicantion will show up in the results

Answers:
Medication is not looked for. The pressure, colour and appearanc is seen. Biochemistry is done to look for protein, sugar and chloride. On microscopy, white and red blood cells are seen and counted. Gram staing and culture and sensitivity test is done for bacteria. Latex particle agglutination test is also done for early identification of the infecting organism.

like many things, it depends on what the dr. is looking for. You can test it for both bacteria and viruses. This is one way to test for bacterial menengitis. Some drugs will show up in blood or urine, etc. Spinal fluid is just another source and might or might not provide indication that medication/drugs/bacteria/etc. have been present.

The best case would be to either ask your physician or to start with the medication and then ask a pharmacist.
